If one is convicted of 290a and is on parole with GPS, will the GPS be removed at discharge of Parole? We are getting conflicting information. Some say that sex offenders required to register have to wear a GPS for life if you are a registered sex offender and others say it will be removed if you are not a violent repeat offender at the end of parole. Which is it?

I don’t know what sort of charging interface the GPS ankle monitors require, but I wonder if a portable charger might at least reduce the need to be near an electrical outlet once or twice every day. Something like the Anker PowerCore 20100mAh charger or similar that you can get from Amazon or an electronics store for around $50 should be able to recharge the GPS device for several days at a stretch before needing to be recharged itself. That is, assuming that the GPS charger can be adapted to it.
I know that a $50 expense for a portable charging device is impractical for a lot of people, but if one could afford it, it could at least provide a little peace of mind.

If you live in CA and went to state prison, in the Title 15 it states that if you are a 290 they can make you wear the GPS monitor for life. I have met 290’s that are in lifetime parole and will have to wear them for life. CA, in its current state (with the budget) cannot manage making everyone wear one for life right now so unless you are some super different case they will take it off when you discharge parole. Having said that, the way the Title 15 reads we are at their mercy. Hope that helps. I’ve been wearing one for 5 years and if things go their way will have to wear it for another 4 years 11 months. Best of luck to everyone
